Tim,

Love this video and song, which leads me to suggest "Murder and Death" theme night.

Maybe for Halloween BUG Jam Night. Start with "Don't Stick" and add such songs as Maxwell's Silver Hammer, Clementine, Long Black Vail, After You Die (Tom Waits), Last Will and Testament, Spirit in the Sky, Ain't No Grave (Johny Cash), Coming Home (Roy Orbison), Done too Soon (Neil Diamond), Only the Good Die Young, Graveyard (Feist), If I Die Sudden (John Mellencamp), In my Life (Beatles), Knocking On Heaven's Door (Bob Dylan), Seasons In The Sun (Terry Jacks), Swing Low, Sweet Chariot, Tell Laura I Love Her (Ray Peterson), I Shot the Sheriff, Bang Bang ( My Baby Sot Me Down - Sonny & Cher), just to name a few.

Let's laugh at Mister Death ...

Just a thought, thanks for the idea Tim, too bad you may not be here.

Tim et all,

I could not find any chorded version of this morbid little ditty, so here is Tim's version of ... Don’t Stick Knives in Babbies Heads

{t:Don’t Stick Knives in Babbies Heads}
{st:Trad. Irish Nursery Rhyme, Tim’s version}

[A]There was an old woman and she lived in the woods,
A'weela weela [D]wooll[A]ia;
[E]There was an old woman and she lived in the woods,
Down by the river [E7]Soull[A]ia.

[A]She had a babbie, two months old,
A'weela weela [D]wooll[A]ia;
[E]She had a babbie, two months old,
Down by the river [E7]Soull[A]ia.

[A]She had a pen knife long and sharp,
A'weela weela [D]wooll[A]ia;
[E]She had a pen knife long and sharp,
Down by the river [E7]Soull[A]ia.

[A]She stuck a pen knife in the babbie's head,
A'weela weela [D]wooll[A]ia;
[E]She stuck a pen knife in the babbie's head,
Down by the river [E7]Soull[A]ia.

[A]The more she stabbed it the more it bled,
A'weela weela [D]wooll[A]ia;
[E]The more she stabbed it the more it bled,
Down by the river [E7]Soull[A]ia.

[A]Three loud knocks come a knockin' at the door,
A'weela weela [D]wooll[A]ia;
[E]Three loud knocks come a knockin' at the door,
Down by the river [E7]Soull[A]ia.

[A]It was three policemen and a man,
A'weela weela [D]wooll[A]ia;
[E]Three policemen and a man,
Down by the river [E7]Soull[A]ia.

[A]'Are you the woman what killed the child?'
A'weela weela [D]wooll[A]ia;
[E]’Yes I am the woman what killed the child,
Down by the river {e7}Soull[A]ia?'

[A]They took her away and they put her in the jail,
A'weela weela [D]wooll[A]ia;
[E]They took her away and they put her in the jail,
Down by the river [E7]Soull[A]ia.'

[A]They put rope around her neck,
A'weela weela [D]wooll[A]ia;
[E]They put rope around her neck,
Down by the river [E7]Soull[A]ia.

[A]They pulled the rope and she got hung,
A'weela weela [D]wooll[A]ia;
[E]They pulled the rope and she got hung,
Down by the river [E7]Soull[A]ia.

[A]And that was the end of the women in the woods,
A'weela weela [D]wooll[A]ia;
[E]And that was the end of the babbie too,
Down by the river [E7]Soull[A]ia.

[A]The moral of this story is,
A'weela weela [D]wooll[A]ia;
[E]Don't stick knives in babbies' heads,
Down by the river [E7]Soull[A]ia.

There's a lot of names that this song goes under, but the most common is "Weile, Waila" (with various spellings) or "The River Saile" (with various spellings). I haven't seen "Don't Stick Knives in Babbie's Heads" yet, but I like it.

The chords Claude has here look right (thanks for all the work Claude! I just shorthand the pattern as A – – DA / E – – E7A and don't bother to think much about where the word fall).

And, actually I just stole the chords from the Dubliners:

And incorporated a few verses from the Clancy Brothers:
