A trip to early adulthood for me... from the 1984 album Stealing Fire which was fantastic all the way through, and covered by Barenaked Ladies, Lovers in a Dangerous time contains two great lines for which to pause and ponder life:

"But nothing worth having comes without some kind of fight"
"You gotta kick at the darkness 'til it bleeds daylight"

With lines like that, how can we not sing this great Canadian song?

Bruce Cockburn sings this in the key of E (I think anyhow) B - Dbm - A
    BNL sings it in D which is A - Bm - G
We are going to sing it in C which is G - Am -F

So if you want to sing along to Bruce, use a capo on the fourth fret.  If you want to sing along to BNL, capo on the second fret.  Or, tune your ukulele to D (A-D-F#-B) to sing along with BNL and capo the second fret for Bruce.

Don't forget, using alternate tuning on your ukulele is a perfect justification for owning more than one. Talk to Mark and Joel, they can hook you up ;-) I am sure they could get you a capo too.

If you don't have a capo, the ukulele is very friendly to improvisation, make one from a pen, pencil or dowel and a hair elastic.  Check this out for inspiration.

    A video for this song:

Our arrangement will be similar to the original

BNL does a really fantastic cover as only they can do.

Thanks for the plug Mike. Great choice of tune. I've played it a bunch myself and didn't realize it wasn't already up on BUG. Thanks for rectifying that egregious oversight. Cheers.

Thanks for that Claude, I made the chopro file as a jumpstart for you to tweak, hopefully it is helpful. Joel, if you have this on your iPad, I would be happy to lead your ukebox group on Wednesday... give me a practice run for later.
