Come on out and join us! And if it's raining or over 30°C, no worries - we'll play inside the community centre!
BUGs for the 6th year in a row, will once again be entertaining southern Ottawa residents and visitors on Canada Day in Vernon this July 1st from 2:00-4:00pm! Joining Mark and Sue and the BUG group are the VUPs (Vernon Ukulele Players) and ukers from other area groups all playing together! Beginners are more than welcome! We've had a great time these past 5 years and the audience loves us!
After playing, many of us will support the Vernon Community Association's BBQ by purchasing a hamburger or hot dog and having dinner together.
After we've eaten and weather permitting, the ukulele players are invited to stroll just up the road to Sharon's place for a cool brew and junk food/munchies (I'll put a box of beer on ice, but please BYOB). Bring your bathing suit and towel for a cool swim at Brian's if you like. At dusk, we'll head back down to the community centre to watch the impressive fireworks display.
RAIN OR SHINE! If it's raining and/or over 30°C, we'll be INSIDE the community centre.
WHERE: Vernon Community Centre, 7950 Lawrence Street. Just a 20 minute drive south of Hunt Club via Bank Street. Once you enter Vernon, turn left at the flashing yellow light (turn left if driving south on Bank, turn right if driving north on Bank). The community centre is just down the road on the right-hand side. Lots of parking. Google Maps lists this address as Winchester, but we are in Vernon!
JAM TIME: 2 - 4 (please try to arrive by 1:30 for set-up)
SONGBOOK: The BUG event binders will be on hand at the event to share among ukers. You are welcome to download the BUG Event Songbook PDF onto your iPad or tablet if you prefer to use that, BUT just be sure, before heading out to the event, that you have downloaded the most recent version. We'll be handing out the BUG Event song list to audience members and letting them request songs.
WHAT TO BRING:
- comfortable chair (for Sharon's place). Chairs are provided at the community centre for playing there
- music stand
- clothespegs or clips to keep the song pages from flipping in the wind
- ukulele, tuner (and kazoo)
- BUG t-shirt, if you have one, or anything else that suits your fancy for Canada Day (as in red, eh!)
- bug spray (if desired, for the evening hours)
- BYOB for Sharon's party
- bathing suit/towel if you'd like to swim
HOPE TO SEE YOU IN VERNON ON CANADA DAY!
