COME JOIN US FOR A WEEKEND OF UKULELE FUN! TAKE THE POINT!
If you can't come for the weekend, come for a jam and potluck picnic supper on Saturday! Only an hour from Ottawa!
Jams and potluck will be held at site #184 in the Riverside East section of the Riverside Cedar Campground. If you're coming for the day, there is a day-use campground fee payable at the registration office. Saturday, August 22, is the main event day for organized jams and a community potluck!
WHEN: Friday, August 21, to Sunday, August 23, 2020
WHERE: Riverside Cedar Campground, 13180 County Road 2, Morrisburg, Ontario
LINK TO RESERVATIONS INFORMATION BY PHONE OR ONLINE (2 night minimum to reserve on weekends): http://www.stlawrenceparks.com/reservations/
NOTE ABOUT RESERVATIONS: We're hoping that ukers will book their sites in the Riverside East section of the campground. There are also chalets to rent in that section as well! Most of us will be in sites 177 through 190. The rally call is "Take the Point" – that way we won’t have unsuspecting travellers camping in our midst involuntarily "appreciating" our jams! Be sure to let Sharon Baird know (email or Facebook messenger) what site you're on so she can add you to the map.
There are lots of activities in the area like paddling, biking, watching the ocean freighters chug by, Upper Canada Village, etc. We're going to have our first ever, never done before, water balloon fight ☺ with our crocheted/knitted water balloons! And music?! Oh my goodness, do we have plans for you! Please label your music stand, and how about wearing a nametag so we can see who you are and where you're from?!
We can't control the weather and there's no indoor shelter in case of rain. So come prepared! If you're able to bring a pop-up shelter in case it rains during the jams, by all means bring it along. There may be rain delays.
Name tags! Really, really important! How many times have you been introduced to another uker at a jam, and then promptly forgotten their name because we are SO many! We hope you'll consider bringing a name tag to wear. For the past two years, Wendy Weston (Toronto Corktown) has provided terrific name tag buttons for people to personalize and wear - if you have one of those, bring it along. There will also be BUG name tag buttons that Mark made that we'll have on hand for $1 each and adhesive name tags that we'll print out. Or bring your own!
7:00 - 9:00 p.m. CAMPFIRE JAM at campsite #184: Bring a chair and one of your logs for the fire! Sue and Mark will be hosting the jam and inviting song requests from the BUG FESTIVAL SONGBOOK. There will also be lots of opportunity for you to do a solo song if you'd like, or to come up to the mic to try your hand at leading the group in song. The songs will be projected on a screen - we had great success with that last year. But it’s highly recommended that you also download the BUG FESTIVAL SONGBOOK to your tablet or iPad and bring that along with you.
10:30 - 12:00 p.m. Let's Play A Multi-part Song Together at site #184!: We'll choose a couple of songs to try from the arrangements posted above (also see the videos below). Be sure to download the PDFs onto your tablet or print them out and bring them along with you AND bring your chair, music stand, and coffee! Sue and Sharon will be there to greet you!
2:00 - 4:00 p.m. JAM at site #184: We’ll be using the BUG EVENT SONGBOOK in the afternoon. Download it onto your tablet or iPad and bring it along, or print it out. Sue and Mark will also bring some BUG EVENT SONGBOOK BINDERS to share. If you have a favourite song that you'd like to share with the group that isn't in the BUG EVENT SONGBOOK, please bring along songsheets to hand out (probably 40 or so would do - we can share).
5:00 - 6:30 p.m. POTLUCK SUPPER at campsite #184: everyone is welcome to bring a dish to share and eat with new friends (you'll need to bring your own chair, plates, cups, utensils, etc).
7:00 – 9:00 p.m. CAMPFIRE JAM at campsite #184: Bring a chair and one of your logs for the fire! Sue, and Mark will be hosting the jam and inviting song requests from the BUG FESTIVAL SONGBOOK . There will also be lots of opportunity for you to do a solo song if you'd like, or to come up to the mic to try your hand at leading the group in a song. The songs will be projected on a screen - we had great success with that last year. But it’s highly recommended that you also download the BUG FESTIVAL SONGBOOK to your tablet or iPad and bring that along with you.
10:00 - 11:00 p.m.: A last hurrah - a few songs, a couple of multi-part arrangements - your choice! Campsite #184!
We'll be using the BUG EVENT SONGBOOK for the Saturday afternoon jam and the BUG FESTIVAL SONGBOOK for the Friday and Saturday night evening jams. For the afternoon jam, Mark & Sue will bring some printed BUG EVENT SONGBOOK binders along with them for you to share, but if you have a tablet or iPad it's highly recommended that you download both songbooks and bring them with you. You can also download the BUG BEATLES' SONGBOOK if you'd like to hang out together and play some extra Beatles' tunes. You’ll be able to use the songbooks throughout the weekend for impromptu jams with others on your own campsites. iPads and other computer devices work well around a campfire because your songsheets are backlit and you don't have to rely on paper and a flashlight. If you don't have a tablet or iPad and need a light for sheet music you have printed, we'd suggest a booklight attached to the stand. If you use a headlight, it shines into other people's eyes PLUS you'll be sucking in bugs as you sing!
If YOU have a favourite song that you'd like the group to play during the Saturday afternoon jam, please bring along songsheets to hand out (probably 40 or so would do - we can share if need be).
ARE YOU CAMPING ALONE? If you're camping alone, there's no need to eat your meals alone or even cart up food for the whole weekend. Interested in finding out more? Contact Sharon before Aug 2ND and she'll explain!
