Canada Day Ukulele Fun, July 1, 2023!

Canada Day Ukulele Fun, July 1, 2023!

The Vernon Ukulele Players have invited the Bytown Ukulele Group and all ukers in the Ottawa-Gatineau region to join them once again to entertain at the Vernon Ontario Canada Day festivities!

WHEN:   Saturday, July 1, 2023

PERFORMANCE TIME:   2:00 to 4:00 p.m. (please arrive by 1:45 to get set-up and be ready to play at 2). There will also be an outdoor after-party at Sharon's house if it's not raining - details below.

WHERE:   Vernon Recreation Centre, 7950 Lawrence St, Vernon, ON
Just a 20 minute drive south of Hunt Club via Bank Street. Once you enter Vernon, turn left at the flashing yellow light. The community centre is a few blocks down the road on the right-hand side.

PLEASE RSVP to Sharon Baird at sharonbaird@bell.net if you would like to join us for the performance, and she'll share her address with you for the after-party.

THE PERFORMANCE WILL BE A RAIN OR SHINE EVENT!
We'll be playing inside the community centre so that we don't have to worry about the weather - rain, heat, snow, etc. Always a fun-filled afternoon!

IF it's not raining, after we've packed up the gear, jam participants are invited to head up the street to Sharon's place to sit under the shade of her trees and enjoy drinks, snacks, and a swim in the above-ground pool. Sharon will have a box of beer on ice, but please bring any other drinks you might enjoy and your own lawn chair.

SONGS:   We'll be choosing songs from the BUG EVENT SONGBOOK for this year's Canada Day Event with an emphasis on our Canadian songs. We may also decide to let audience members call out song requests from lists we'll provide them - people have had fun with that in previous years. You can download the BUG Event Songbook PDF to a tablet if you'd like to use it at the event or to practice ahead of time - but be sure to check on the morning of the event that you've downloaded the most recent version as we may be adding songs. We'll also bring BUG Event binders to share among uke players at the event.

WHAT TO BRING:

  • sturdy music stand
  • ukulele, tuner, and kazoo
  • BUG or VUP t-shirts and hats, or any other fun Canada Day apparel!
  • if it's not raining, for Sharon's after-party, BYOB, a comfortable chair, and a bathing suit and towel if you'd like a swim.
  • Bug spray and sweater if you're thinking of staying for the fireworks.

WE'RE LOOKING FORWARD TO SINGING WITH YOU IN VERNON ON CANADA DAY!
