The song was written by Lipa alongside Clarence Coffee Jr., Chelcee Grimes and its producer, Stephen Kozmeniuk. One night while they were all in a studio, Coffee began singing the riff of the 1932 track "My Woman" by Al Bowlly with Lew Stone and His Monseigneur Band over the top of what they had. Lipa suggested that they should incorporate it into "Love Again". Kozmeniuk spent a lot of time doing so with several different pitch corrections as "Love Again" and "My Woman" were in different keys. Due to this, Bing Crosby, Max Wartell and Irving Wallman were also credited as writers.

Dua Lipa has received several accolades throughout her career, including six Brit Awards from fourteen nominations, one MTV Video Music Award from fifteen nominations, one American Music Award from six nominations, one iHeartRadio Music Award from eight nominations, one Bambi Awards and three Grammy Awards from eight nominations. On 26 May 2023, Lipa released "Dance the Night" as the lead single of the Barbie film soundtrack. Lipa also made her acting debut in the movie, portraying Mermaid Barbie.
